1st JANUARY POWER LUNCH FOR PROFESSIONALS
"Government Affairs"

presented by Frank McNulty, Colorado State Representative 43rd District
Tues., Jan. 8th, 11:30-1pm at SMDRA

Power Lunch for Professionals – January 2008

By Nick Bokone, Shared Government Affairs Director Greater Metro Denver REALTOR® Associations
The first Power Lunch for Professionals of 2008 had a political and government affairs angle to it as State Representative Frank McNulty (R-Highlands Ranch) led an informative discussion on Colorado’s caucus and election process.

Around 100 SMDRA members enjoyed a lunch from Maggiano’s paid for by Issues Mobilization Funds from CAR with drinks and dessert provided by Lea Ann Brown of Trinity Title before McNulty’s remarks.

“The Caucus system is a great way to elect candidates,” said McNulty. “It allows for people to have one-on-one discussions with candidates who seek their vote.” He then continued outlining how the caucuses differ from county to county and encouraged all REALTORS® to not only attend the meetings, but volunteer to be election judges, county delegates, and precinct committee volunteers.

“If you really want to get involved in your community and learn firsthand how the process works, volunteer to be a precinct committee member. You’ll learn the issues, you’ll meet your neighbors, and you’ll influence the candidates who advance on issues that you care about,” stated McNulty.

This year, Colorado holds its caucuses on Wednesday, February 5th beginning at 7:00pm. To find your local meeting, check with your county’s party website (e.g. Arapahoe County Democrat Party, Douglas County Republicans). By law, signs for the locations of the meetings must be posted in your precinct by January 24th. Once you’re there, you’ll have the opportunity to meet candidates from your party running for office, hear why they’re seeking your vote, listen to and debate resolutions about many issues important to your area, and select delegates to higher meetings such as the County Assembly and State Convention.
