Metro Denver 2002 REALTOR® of the Year Award The South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association (SMDRA) recently bestowed their highest honor of “2002 REALTOR of the Year Award” to Scott Matthias of Prestige Real Estate Group. This annual award is given to a member of SMDRA who has provided exemplary service to both the Association and the community. Matthias was honored at the 2002-2003 SMDRA Inaugural Celebration at the Inverness Hotel. Matthias, a native Denverite and graduate from Thomas Jefferson High School has been a REALTOR® for 16 years. During this time he has served SMDRA in numerous ways. He was the 1999 President of SMDRA. He has served on several committees and has been a director for SMDRA for 11 years. In 1988, the first year Matthias was a REALTOR® he was the recipient of the Don B. Weist Award, an honor given to a REALTOR® who has given outstanding service to the association and the community the first five years of their career. He is currently a Director of the Colorado Association of REALTORS® and President of CARHOF (Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation). Serving his community, Matthias, an avid runner, has used his long distance running skills to raise funds for several organizations. Participating in the Portland Marathon, he raised $20,000 for a nephew born with a rare medical syndrome. In the Denver Marathon and the Bolder Boulder Marathon he raised $15,000 for FCO (For Children Only), a nonprofit group that provides tutoring and social activities for homeless children. Matthias is a volunteer tutor for FCO. Matthias also raised over $23,000 for leukemia patients when he ran in the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll Marathon and the Houston Marathon. Prior to becoming REALTOR®, when he was employed as a manager for King Soopers, Matthias initiated a shopping program for seniors and special-needs citizens in which he received an outstanding community service award from President Ronald Reagan. Matthias is a graduate of Metro State College with a degree in Business Management. He has received industry educational designations of GRI (Graduate Realtor Institute) and CRS (Certified Residential Specialist). Arnot To Lead the South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association
Presidential Inauguration REALTOR®
Okie Arnot, Assistant Team Leader for Keller Williams Realty DTC, was
installed as the President/Chairman of the Board of the South Metro
Denver REALTOR® Association (SMDRA) at the recent 2002-2003
Inaugural Celebration for SMDRA at the Inverness Hotel. Arnot,
a member of SMDRA since 1985, has served on the Board of Directors for
four years and was the 2002 President-Elect.
She also served on many committees including New Member
Orientation, Finance, and Ambassadors and was Liaison to the Affiliate
Council. She
is the co-author of the book, “The Best of Both Worlds” for the
Douglas/Elbert Board of REALTORS® where she was honored with
the 1984 REALTOR® of the Year Award. Arnot
has served as the Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR)
Pubic Relations Chair, the CAR Convention Registration Chair and the
Metro Public Relations Committee Chair.
She has done extensive work in Relocation, REO
(Real Estate Owned) and appraising.
In 1991 she led the marketing for the first large Resolution
Trust Auction in the United States, which was the first in Colorado. Arnot received a MBA from the University of Phoenix. She also attended the University of Texas. She has been in the real estate industry for 32 years and is a second generation REALTOR®. Her
early career gave her experience in apartment sales and leasing, HUD

REALTOR® Association Leadership InstalledThe 2003 Officers and Directors for the South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association (SMDRA) were recently installed at the Inaugural Celebration at the gala Inverness Hotel. REALTOR® Okie Arnot, Assistant Team Leader at Keller Williams Realty DTC, was installed as the 2002-2003 President/Chair for SMDRA. Arnot joined SMDRA in 1985. She has served as a Director since 1999and has chaired and served on many committees for the association. She is also on the board of First Service Mortgage. REALTOR® Gary Morton, from Cherry Creek Realty, Ltd, will serve as Chair-Elect, REALTOR® Kati Harken, Prestige Real Estate Group, will carry out the responsibilities of Secretary and REALTOR® Angela Burdick, Metro Brokers – Angela Burdick Realty, will act as Past President/Corporate Secretary. Assuming the responsibilities of Directors for SMDRA are the following REALTORS®: Thomas Barnwell, Re/Max Classic; Nancy Clarke, Prestige Real Estate Group LLC; Donna Ebert, Metro Broker – Donna Ebert Realty; Robert Frazee, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Rohn Goldstein, the Prudential Legend Realty; Phil Gottlieb, the Feld Company; Eva Mitchell, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Steven Olson, Olson Appraisal Company; and Scott Scribner, Cherry Creek LTD. Association REALTOR®
Dave Cupp, Metro Broker Metwood Realty Ltd. in Littleton, was presented
the SMDRA Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of Mary Ellen Marx at the
South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association (SMDRA) at the
2002-2003 Inaugural Celebration at the Inverness Hotel.
The award pays tribute to an outstanding REALTOR® for
their significant and ongoing contribution to SMDRA.
It recognizes longevity of service, REALTOR® spirit
including high principals, faithfulness to the laws and regulations of
the Code of Ethics, admiration of fellow associates and the general
public and business accomplishments. Since
joining SMDRA in 1992, Cupp has excelled.
He has served on the Professional Standards, Finance, Computer
Users and Ambassadors Liaison committees. He was a director for SMDRA
from 1995-1999. He was the
1996 SMDRA Treasurer, SMDRA President-Elect in 1997 and the President of
SMDRA in 1999. Since 1999,
Cupp has served as SMDRA’s Director to the Colorado Association of
REALTORS®. Cupp
owns and operates his own Metro Broker’s company, Metwood Realty Ltd.
He is a Director of Metro Brokers, Inc and is currently the
treasurer of the corporation. His
professional real estate designations include the Graduate REALTOR®
Institute (GRI), the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and the
Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR). He
attended Arkansas State University, the University of Hawaii and Memphis
State University studying business and education.
He taught math and science in Arkansas.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a personnel specialist. The
South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association serves over 2500

of the Year Award Pat
Argall
Patrick
(Pat) J Argall, from First Horizon Home Loans, was this years recipient
of the Affiliate of the Year Award from the South Metro Denver REALTOR®
Association (SMDRA). Argall
was recently presented the award at the 2002-2003 SMDRA Inaugural
Celebration at the Inverness Hotel because of the significant time and
energy he has donated to SMDRA. He
has been a member of SMDRA since 1992. He was the 2002 President of the
SMDRA Affiliate Council and the 2001 President-Elect of the SMDRA
Affiliate Council. He has
served on numerous committees including the Cinco de Mayo, Geek Speak,
and the Political Survival Fund Carnival Committees.
Because of Argall’s dedicated efforts SMDRA has seen a
significant increase in affiliate memberships. He
made a commitment to meet with new affiliate members during his tenure
as President of the Affiliate Council and encouraged them to get
involved in committees and to share their ideas. Argall,
who grew up in Lakewood, also donates his time to the Denver Public
Children’s Read-Aloud Program. Graduating
from Regis Jesuit High School in 1970, Argall has been in the lending
business for over 27 years. He
received his BS in Business Administration from Regis College in Denver. He has given both his business and SMDRA unparalleled service
and personal attention. The

Metro Denver REALTOR® Association The Don B. Weist Award is presented to a member of the South Metro Denver REALTOR® ASSOCIATION (SMDRA) who has provided outstanding service to the association and to the community during the first five years of their real estate career. Stephen
Mikolajczak, from Prestige Real Estate Group, LLC, recently received the
honor of the 2002 Don B Weist Award at the 2002-2003 SMDRA Inaugural
Celebration at the Inverness Hotel.
For the last two years, Mikolajczak has served on the New Member
Orientation Panel for SMDRA where he advises and informs all the new
members about their career in real estate and their membership with the
association. Mikolajczak
is a 1977 graduate from Central Catholic High School in Denver.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Enterprise and
the USS America on the electronic warfare squadron during the Libya
conflict. In
1986, Mikolajczak received a BS in Aviation Science from Metropolitan
College where he was on the Vice President’s honor roll. Before
starting his career in real estate, he was the Director of Operations
for FeyLine and then Facility Manager for Stadium Operations for the
Colorado Rockies. Wanting
to stay in the Denver area and enjoying purchasing his own home, the
diversity of the real estate industry started Mikolajczak on his career
in real estate. The

Metro Denver REALTOR® Association Mary Bradford, President of Bradford Auto Body in
Littleton, received the South Metro Denver REALTOR®
Association (SMDRA) 2002 Community Service Award presented to an
individual who promotes “Community Spirit”.
Bradford was recently presented the award at the 2002-2003 SMDRA
Inaugural Celebration at the Inverness Hotel. Bradford, who has been a small business owner in
Littleton since 1949, has demonstrated a level of community involvement
normally found in large corporations. She worked with the Busy Bee
Program while on the Inter Faith Task Force Board. Her commitment to
children and education extended to the Rotary “I Can Read Program”. She has also supported her community assisting with
Project Cure, the South Suburban Foundation, the Porter Hospital
Foundation and the Littleton Town Hall Board.
During the holiday season she is involved with the Candlelight
Walk in downtown Littleton and the Santa Claus Shop. Presenting Bradford with the award, Kay Watson, 2003
Colorado Association of REALTORS® President, described
Bradford as a person who “radiates kindness, caring, humility,
generosity and exemplifies the promotion of Community Spirit.” Past award recipients have included community activist Gene Koelbel, Dr. Frank Sargent, former District Attorney Bob Gallagher Jr., and Dave Lorenz from South Suburban Park and Recreation District. Metro Denver REALTOR® Association 2002 Community Service AwardAdvocates
for Children
This years Community Service Award to an Organization was presented to Advocates for Children by the South Metro Denver REALTOR® Association (SMDRA) at their 2002-2003 Inaugural Celebration at the Inverness Hotel. The vision of the Advocates for Children is for all children to live and thrive in safe, permanent, nurturing homes and neighborhoods. Their mission is to prevent child abuse by speaking up for abused and neglected children through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Volunteers. The CASA Volunteers have provided service to children in the 18th Judicial District including Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties. Currently, over 300 CASA volunteers are assisting 700 children in our community. Accepting the Community Service award and a check for $500 for Advocates for Children were Linnett Marcuso, Advocates for Children Board Member, and Peggy Rudden, Executive Director for the Advocates for Children. Past award recipients have included the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, the Cancer League of Colorado and the Sungate Child Advocacy Center.
